Long ago, so the Storyteller claimed, the evil god Torak sought the
dominion and drove men and gods to war. But Belgarath the Sorcerer led men to
reclaim the Orb that protected men of the West. So long as it lay at Riva, the
prophecy went, men would be safe.
But that was only a story, and Garion did not believe in
magic dooms, even though the dark man without a shadow had haunted him for years.
Brought up on a quiet farm by his Aunt Pol, how could he know that the Apostate planned to
wake dread Torak, or that he would be led on a quest of unparalleled magic and danger by
those he loved - but did not know?
For a while, his dreams of innocence were safe,
untroubled by knowledge of his strange heritage. For a while...

This is a great book. When you read this you will be compelled to continue
reading David Eddings. He writes with passion and makes you care about the
characters. I highly recomend this book for all ages.
This is one of the most intriguing books I have ever read.
I read it in 2 hours and immediatley went and bought the rest of the series. If you enjoy
adventure with realistic characters, this is a must-read.

I've read all the Garion series and I think they must be the most
amazing books I've ever read. The authors really bring life to the characters so that I
almost feel that I really do know Garion, Polgara and co!

This book is a wonderful beginning to the greatest story that has
ever been written!
The interaction between characters is both realistic and
compelling, a rarity in itself, but particularly in a fantasy series! Absolutely
fantastic.

I had a friend introduce me to the Belgariad and Malloreon series
years ago and they are still to this day my favorite books. I hate to ever compare one
artist (or in this case, two artists) to another, but I enjoyed the Garion series, more
than Tolkien's LOTR series.

What I like most about this book, as a start to the series, is
that it introdues the characters slowly and one at a time so that, by the time the main
part of the story begins, you really care what happens to them. I've been reading fantasy
novels since the mid-1980's and these are still the very best.

I have read these books many times and they just keep getting
better. Now that LOTR has been released as a movie, I will be interested to see if David
Eddings will do the same. I'll be the first to watch if he does.
I have never read a better series of books
The most amazing series I have ever read........it's up there
with The Lord of the Rings I'm serious!!!!!!!!!

before!

Started reading the Belgariad series when I was 9 years old and
have read the series at least once a year ever since, I'm now 19
This is better than Tolkien by far! The characters are awsome and
the plot is wonderful! I love the Belgariad!
I am now reading both the Belgariad and Mallorean series for the
10th ( no joke) and I continue to pick up subtle hints as to who Garion actually is- read
the part where Old Wolf tells the story of the Gods at Erastide at Faldor's farm and says
this story is usually told in the presence of kings. Love the way David and Leigh temper
story with clues of what is to come. Going now to read Magician's Gambit for number 10

A friend introduced me to this series. I read the first one
quickly, read the second one quickly, then had to wait to buy the third one (he only had
the first two!)-five days seemed like five years, so when I could I brought the rest. Two
weeks later I brought the second series (you just know!) That was three years ago - I have
since read this entire series twice! Far better than Lord of the Rings! Starts quicker!

The Belgariad and the Mallorean were really good! I can´t help
compearing them with Tolkiens LOTR. Eddings two series aren´t far from being as good as
LOTR. I wonder how the books would do as a movie? Maybe Tolkiens triologi and Eddings
books are to alike for Eddings books to make a good movie?

I LOVE THE BOOKS AND WOULD LOVE TO SEE A MOVIE ON THEM.
Perfection! My Brother-inlaw has had to update his Eddings
collection several times because the whole family are addicts like me, incidentally,
there's a lot of people in my family. Awkward reading at night though, especially when one
would like to bark out loud with laughter at the funny parts. TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE!

The tales spun my the enchantings are likes of the world has
never seen. Inevitably all who read will know that the story unfolding before them will
soon have them under its spell. Carry On, Eddings.. Spin more worlds so that likes us can
get willingly entranced. Long Live the Eddings!
Brilliant!! For anyone whom is sceptical about fantasy, then READ
THIS BOOK. The characters are well thought out and believable as are the places. With so
many Eddings fans out there, i believe that a movie would surpass Lord of the Rings.

Wow! I'm 14, much younger than a lot of readers her (I think!)
I want to thank my mum for introducing me too the books!
I would love for there to be a movie BUT It might spoil it, Due to time limits! I much
prefer seeing it in my mind, not on screen!
You know I think so many more of us young-uns should get into
Eddings! I am 14 and have read all of Eddings' work, but the Belgariad will always be by
far the best! Eddings' depiction of characters gets you so involved that they simply
become family and you struggle to draw the line between fiction and reality.
I have not finished the belgaraid yet but I already love it so much I want to have the
whole collection of David & Leigh eddings books so that I can read them all time and
time again.
and try as much as possible to get your book series begariad and mallorea series into the
movies because it would look so so cool and I would buy them all.
