Long ago, so the Storyteller claimed, the evil god Torak sought the
dominion and drove men and gods to war. But Belgarath the Sorcerer led men to
reclaim the Orb that protected men of the West. So long as it lay at Riva, the
prophecy went, men would be safe.
But that was only a story, and Garion did not believe in magic dooms, even though the dark man without a shadow had haunted him for years. Brought up on a quiet farm by his Aunt Pol, how could he know that the Apostate planned to wake dread Torak, or that he would be led on a quest of unparalleled magic and danger by those he loved - but did not know?
For a while, his dreams of innocence were safe,
untroubled by knowledge of his strange heritage. For a while... Score:

| An outstanding read. Both the book and the series are filled with the elements of the human condition that make you want to come back for more.

| Just one review for all 13 books-they're the best. Awesome. Perfect. The best fantasy series ever, except possibly Terry Pratchett's discworld. But really, no comparison. The amount of work that went into these 13 books is all shown in the Rivan Codex. That's all, really. | |||

| I picked this up in the school library back in 1984 (I was 14.) And form the moment I picked it up I could not out it down. I have most of the David Eddings book's and 20 years later I still go back and start them all again. Garion and his companions have been with me for years, and I would really like to thank Davis and Leigh for introducing them to me... keep it up!! | |||

| Hi My friend introduced these books to me last september and I managed to read all the belgariad in a week. Since then I have read all the other eddings books and have enjoyed them all. But garion and his friends are still my favorites and have managed to read the whole series again 4 times since being first introduced. If you haven't read them yet you must... you don't know what your missing. | |||

| I absolutely loved these books. Even though the public library did't have them all, I managed to find them and read the series toooo many times. Out of all the series, the Belgriad and Mallorean are the two best. Enjoy reading! | |||

| The Belgariad started me on the road of Fantasy 10 years ago and I find myself fondly returning to my roots and re-reading it every couple of months while I wait for the next Wheel of Time book to be released. I can only hope and wait for the Belgariad to hit the big screen, if made right it would be movie of the decade for sure!!! | |||

| I'm not happy unless I have a book in my hand and after picking up Pawn of Prophecy that belonged to my roomate's sister one day, life was never the same. I've read the series probably six times at least over the past 15 years and I have told my eight year old son all about them and I can't wait till he is old enough to read them too. With all my heart Thank you for these characters that become real to the reader and are friends that are always there. | |||

| I started my fantasy reading with The Hobbit and LOTR. Then I read C.S. Lewis' Cronicles of Narnia. Finally, I read the Belgariad. I loved all the series, but the belgariad is the only one I can read and reread over and over! Great entertainment! | |||

| They are the most wonderful books I have ever read (I read quite a lot).I first read them some years ago and I was dying while I was waiting for the next book to publish in Turkish. Now I'm reading in both Turkish and English. After reading Eddings', I can't like any other book in the same category (maybe in all categories). | |||
